What are the difference between the foods between different regions of germany?
e.g. to the north more people eat fish and drink beer whereas to the south more people drink wine instead

I don't know about that, the beer in the South. The Bavarians are very proud of their beer(s). Bavaria is Southern Germany. The German wine country borders France. Shame that Germany doesn't produce enough wine to export in quantity. German table wine for 4 euro — 1,5 litre, grown in Baden-Wurtemburg is about the best cooking and table service I know.
None of the regions in Germany make dessert worth purchase. Cheddar cheese is unheard of outside a MacDonald's.
The only variance, really, is the different styles of sausage. Germany pays a premium for English sheep casings to make their white sausages.
